Giant City Stables
is located just inside the
Giant
City State Park, nestled in the
Shawnee
National
Forest, just minutes south of Carbondale. The area was
named for the
unique impressions made by its massive sandstone structures. The
natural splendor of Giant City has made it a
renowned retreat that
attracts
more than 1.2 million visitors annually. Visitors to the park
enjoy many amenities, including camping, hiking, playgrounds, and the
food and overnight accomodations at the
Giant City State Park
Lodge.
The State
Park is 4000 acres of spectacular countryside with a 12 mile horse
trail around the park. The
River to River Trail is part of the 12 mile loop.
The
Stable maintains about 30 horses of different types and
breeds. In 2007 we opened our new covered arena.
The
Volunteer Program provides learning opportunities for anyone
willing to put in the time. It also makes it
possible for us to offer a wide variety of programs ranging from Girl
Scouts, equine therapy to special events. Perfect
for any
cowgirl or cowboy wrangler wannabe. Must be age 16 or older
to volunteer. No experience with
horses necessary. We are looking for enthused, conscientious
individuals who enjoy working with horses and
the public.
If you are looking
for an opportunity to give back
to the
community, come join our team. We also have a lot of fun!
